About the Artist
About me.. Well describing my artistic approach I like to say my style is realism with a splash of abstract. Growing up I was greatly influenced by my Grandmother who was also an artist. She painted in oils and I always loved watching her paint. I loved the sight of the brushes, paints, and various tools laying around her small studio. I even loved the smells of the turpentine and mediums she used. (And i still do! Funny how a smell can bring back a memory) This is probably why oil is my favorite medium, although I also use acrylic paints and am known to sketch with graphite and colored pencil occasionally.
As a career choice though, I ended up going to school and working in the medical field, for 20 years, as an MRI technologist. A long shot from an artist… I married a wonderful man and we had two children. As my children grew older and I found myself with some extra time, I felt the tug of art on my soul. That was many years ago and the time I devote to art is ever increasing. I am now an art teacher and a lifetime student. My subject matter is broad… I enjoy landscapes, cityscapes, animals, flowers, people and more. It turns out that my knowledge of the human body, inside and out, fine-tuned from my experience as an MRI tech, has helped me to paint the human figure fairly easily…and that is something I love to do!
My favorite thing, though, is plein-air painting. (painting on-site somewhere) I enjoy painting in my home studio that my sweet husband built for me, but given a choice I would rather paint live…. Such as at a wedding or an art festival. There is something about the energy of those environments, and I love sharing the artistic process with people.
